Most of America is farmland, it seems. Certainly most of what I have seen in Ohio Indiana and Pennsylvania is farmland. I drove through Texas some years ago, and stopping in the middle of nowhere I was suddenly struck by the thought that if I lived out here in the great wide open I may have a different perspective. If there is a point to getting out into the land it is this: Maybe, if we are diligent, and thoughtful, we can try to discern a tiny bit about the people that live here in America. Maybe not. But better to get out into it and have a look, don’t you think?
